to the landing site to the cobra island (Musambwa Island). The guide will also have
you briefed about the itinerary.

souvenirs.
Accommodation: Nabisere Hotel

Day 2 : Herping at the island, then transfer to Rwenzori mountains
Early in the morning after breakfast, we will cross to Musambwa island. This 45 minute boat sail will transport us to a crazy, strange world. The island is inhabited by a small fishing community, a huge board colony and of course loads of brown forest cobras. The cobras are there for the birds, the bird and the people for the fish. But they all live in harmony, to the level, where people share their houses (shacks) with the cobras, and many times even their beds. Nobody is allowed to harm the snakes. Only men are allowed to the island, and only very few people visit this place. And even those will not be allowed to poke around for snakes. Except us, who now have a way to talk to the leader of the community, who allows herping on the island. Still, we will be careful, since any snake- handling might be perceived as an intrusion, and people are very superstitious. After we finished on the island, we shall have a super long drive to Rwenzori Mountains.
Day 3 : Herping in Rwenzori mountains then transfer to Mityana
After your early morning breakfast, our driver guide will pick you up from your lodge and head for a full day herping in the Rwenzori mountains also known as “mountains of the moon”., looking for different chameleon species and of course for great lakes bush vipers, which are very easy to find in the area. The common species found in this area are the Great lakes bush vipers, Johnstoni chameleons, side stripped chameleons, strange horned chameleons but not all 100% guaranteed. After herping, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide and have a long drive to Mityana.
Day 4, 5 & 6 : Herping in Mityana

After breakfast, we shall be leaving the hotel by at least 7:00am for the forest. Herping usually starts from 8:00am and ends depending on our targets met or not. We do not guarantee anything when it comes to snake excursions because we do not make appointment with these wonderful creatures. The rule is to be determined, work as a team, and of course we can’t dictate nature

However, the target species during our herpetological expeditions in Mityana are the Gaboon vipers (B.Gabonica), Rhinoceros vipers (B. Arsicornis), Jameson’s mambas (D. Jamesoni Kaimosae), Green bush vipers (A. squamigera), Rough scaled bush vipers (A. hispida), and many more. As a way of promoting community tourism, we do use some local guides who will be joining us to help in spotting. Communication: To ease communication during this activity, we do use Walkie talkies so that we all keep alert and informed. This also helps us not to get lost from the rest of the team. Lunch: Sometimes we go with packed lunch or come back and have lunch from the hotel. Herping may stop at 1pm or 2pm depending on the weather.

Day 6 : Herping in Mityana then afternoon transfer to Mabira

Very early in the morning after your breakfast, we
shall do full day herping in Mityana then get
transferred to Mabira forest.
Upon reaching Mabira, you will check-in to the hotel
for dinner and overnight

Day 7 : Day and Night Herping in Mabira
