Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, a hotel representative will meet you and transfer you to your accommodation. You will check in, refresh, and relax after your journey.

Later in the evening, meet your safari guide for a detailed briefing. The guide will explain the itinerary, safety guidelines, and expectations for the entire trip. This session ensures that you start your safari fully prepared and informed.

Day 2: Shoebill Tracking and Transfer to Mabira Forest

Your guide will pick you up early in the morning and transfer you to Mabamba Swamp. This wetland is one of the best places in Africa to spot the rare shoebill stork.

You will board a motorized canoe and navigate through narrow water channels. Local guides will assist in locating the shoebill. The bird often hunts early in the morning, making this the best time for sightings. You will observe its unique hunting technique as it stands still before striking its prey with precision.

The swamp hosts over 300 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Expect to see kingfishers, herons, and other water birds during the excursion.

After the shoebill experience, you will transfer to Mabira Forest. Along the way, you will stop for lunch. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and prepare for a night walk.

The guided night walk introduces you to nocturnal species. You may hear forest hyrax calls and encounter insects, frogs, and small mammals.

Day 3: Full-Day Herping in Mabira Forest

You will begin the day with a briefing from a professional herpetologist. The guide will explain how to identify reptiles and amphibians, recognize habitats, and move safely in the forest.

During the day, you will explore forest trails in search of snakes, lizards, and amphibians. At night, you will continue herping using torches to locate nocturnal species.

Common target species include Gaboon vipers, rhinoceros vipers, and bush vipers. You may also encounter primates such as red-tailed monkeys and vervet monkeys.

This experience requires teamwork and attention to detail. The forest environment constantly changes, so patience plays a key role in successful sightings.

Day 4: Morning Herping and Transfer to Mityana

After breakfast, you will head into the forest for a final morning herping session. This session offers another chance to spot species missed on the previous day.

Later, you will return to the lodge, check out, and begin your transfer to Mityana. You will stop for lunch along the way and enjoy views of rural landscapes.

Day 5: Herping in Mityana Forests

You will leave the lodge early and head into the forest. Herping activities depend on weather conditions and wildlife movement patterns.

The forest provides ideal conditions for several snake species. Target species include Gaboon vipers, Jameson’s mambas, green bush vipers, and rough-scaled bush vipers.

Local guides will join the team to improve spotting accuracy. Their knowledge of the terrain and wildlife behavior increases the chances of successful encounters.

Communication and Safety

You will use walkie-talkies to maintain communication within the group. This ensures safety and coordination throughout the forest exploration.

Meals and Breaks

You may carry packed lunch or return to the lodge depending on the schedule. The team will adjust activities based on weather and energy levels.

Day 6: Transfer to Kibale National Park and Bigodi Swamp Walk

After a relaxed breakfast, you will begin your journey to Kibale National Park. The drive passes through scenic countryside with tea plantations and local villages.

Upon arrival, you will check in and have lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.

The swamp walk offers excellent opportunities to spot primates, including colobus monkeys and red-tailed monkeys. You will also observe bird species, butterflies, and unique plant life.

Later, you will visit the local community. Activities may include coffee processing demonstrations, basket weaving, and cultural interactions.

Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains

You will start the day with chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park. Rangers will guide you through the forest while tracking chimpanzee movements.

Once you locate a group, you will spend time observing their behavior. You will watch them feed, communicate, and interact within their social structure.

After the trek, you will transfer to the Rwenzori Mountains. You will check in at your lodge and prepare for a night walk.

Day 8: Herping in the Rwenzori Mountains

The Rwenzori Mountains provide a unique ecosystem for herping. You will explore forest trails in search of chameleons and bush vipers.

Target species include Johnston’s chameleon, Elliot’s chameleon, and Great Lakes bush vipers. The cool climate and dense vegetation support diverse wildlife.

After the herping session, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will arrive in time for an afternoon game drive.

During the game drive, you may spot elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and warthogs. Predators such as lions may also appear depending on timing and luck.

Day 9: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will begin the day with an early morning game drive. This time offers the best chance to see predators before they retreat from the heat.

You will explore the Kasenyi plains, known for large herds of antelope and frequent lion sightings. The open savannah allows clear views for photography.

After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch and rest.

In the afternoon, you will take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This waterway connects Lake Edward and Lake George.

The cruise offers close views of hippos, crocodiles, and elephants along the shoreline. You will also see numerous bird species, including fish eagles and kingfishers.

Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi via Ishasha Sector

After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will pass through the Ishasha sector, famous for tree-climbing lions.

During the game drive, you may spot lions resting in fig trees. This behavior is rare and unique to this region.

After the game drive, you will continue to Bwindi. You will check in at your lodge and prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking.

Day 11: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

You will wake up early, have breakfast, and proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing. Rangers will assign you a gorilla family and provide guidelines for the trek.

You will hike through dense forest, navigating steep terrain and thick vegetation. The trek duration varies depending on the location of the gorillas.

Once you find the gorilla group, you will spend one hour observing them. You will watch their interactions, feeding habits, and social behavior.

This experience offers one of the most powerful wildlife encounters in the world. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for rest and reflection.

Day 12: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, you will check out and begin your journey to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive includes scenic views and optional stops.

Upon arrival, you will check in and go for an afternoon game drive. The park hosts zebras, giraffes, impalas, and buffaloes.

The smaller size of the park allows closer wildlife encounters compared to larger parks.

Day 13: Safari Activities in Lake Mburo

You will start with a morning game drive. The early hours provide excellent lighting and active wildlife.

After the drive, you will return for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, you will take a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. You will see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds along the shores.

This activity complements the land-based safari and provides a different perspective of the ecosystem.

Day 14: Walking Safari and Transfer to Entebbe

You will begin the day with a guided walking safari. This activity allows you to explore the park on foot while observing smaller details of the ecosystem.

You will learn about animal tracks, plant species, and ecological interactions. Armed rangers will ensure safety throughout the walk.

After the activity, you will begin your journey back to Entebbe. You will stop at the Equator for photos and souvenirs.

Day 15: Departure

You will have breakfast at the hotel and prepare for departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for optional activities in Entebbe.

Your guide will transfer you to the airport for your onward journey. This marks the end of your 15-day herping and wildlife safari in Uganda.
